Etao Shin is a weird rock / queerwave band from Bristol via Southampton. They play unconventional songs with improvised jams, raw delivery and a balance of harmoniousness and noise in live performances. Their songs range from afrobeat-inspired odes to immortal light bulbs to free-jazz monologues by invented gods, and many of their songs are very queer (in both senses of the word).
Their song “A Solitude Sheer” was declared one of legendary music journo Everett True’s 100 Favourite Songs of 2013 on collapseboard.com and they have garnered favourable comparisons to Cardiacs, The Fall and Tune-Yards in praise of their recordings, but they are best experienced live in unusual venues. Their previous gigs have ranged from playing with a string quartet in the mediaeval city walls of Southampton to embarking on a tour playing in independent bookshops around the UK.
The band have released three EPs since forming in 2010 and are currently working on their debut album.
Etao Shin stands for ‘Etao, The Acronym Of Shin, Has Infinite Nesting’.
